Welcome back to school for 2009-2010!!  We hope that you had a happy and healthy summer and are ready to work hard and learn lots of great things!

Our kindergarten "friends" are learning how to take good care of books.  Mr. Wiggle is helping them.  Please talk to your child and ask what he/she has learned about good book care.

First graders have learned that books go on our shelves in ABC order by the author's last name.  This week we will be starting a unit on apples for the month of October.

Second grade students have reviewed the parts of a book and are learning about "subjects" of books for the first time.

Third graders are finding out all about fiction and nonfiction. This week they will be creating their own fiction and nonfiction book covers.

Fourth grade students have been learning about ABC order of authors at their own grade level.  They have also learned about other places where we use last names to alphabetize, such as the phone book and address books.

The author of the month for October will be Dan Gutman. We have many of his books, including Miss Daisy is Crazy, Miss Roopy is Loopy, and Mr. Klutz is Nuts!  As you can probably tell from the titles, he writes humorous books. He also wrote The Kid Who Ran for President, a book that I read last year with our fourth grade students to keep them focused on our presidential election.  It is a great book that tells a story, but also includes facts in each chapter about our government.  Check out Dan Gutman's webpage at www.dangutman.com.  Have fun learning about him and be prepared for a few surprises, too!
